Gifted and Inclusion Teachers

These are the custom teachers your SIS sends us. You do not enter them and you do not name their students: a gifted or inclusion course in your teacher and enrollment files is what makes somebody one, and the students enrolled in that course are the students they work with.

For the interventionists and consultants your district enters by hand, see Custom Teachers You Add instead. The two kinds work differently throughout.

Where Their Students Come From

A gifted or inclusion teacher's students are rostered to the general-education teacher, not to them. Their scores carry the other teacher's id, so we cannot find them the way we find a classroom teacher's.

Instead we read the gifted or inclusion course your SIS sends, take the students enrolled in it for that school year and quarter, and find those students' scores by student. That is why these teachers get numbers at all despite holding no scores of their own.

Nothing here is editable in TKG Analytics. If a gifted or inclusion teacher has the wrong students, the enrollment is wrong in your SIS, and the fix is the file. There is no way to add or remove one of their students in the app, deliberately: they would then have two lists of students with nothing to say which one counts.

A teacher is one of these in a school year your SIS sends them the course, and not in a year it does not. So somebody who taught an inclusion course two years ago is not treated as an inclusion teacher now, and their label on this year's pages reflects that.

What Their Subjects Do

This is the part that catches districts out, because the two kinds differ:

What the subjects on their record do
Inclusion teacher They decide which scores count. We take their students' special-education scores in the subjects set on their record, so a subject left off means those scores are not counted for them.
Gifted teacher Nothing. We take their students' gifted scores whatever subjects are set, so adding or removing a subject does not change their numbers.

So an inclusion teacher's subjects are worth checking, and a gifted teacher's are not worth chasing. Set them on Custom Teachers.

Their subjects stay editable even when they also teach classes of their own, because an inclusion population is read from those subjects whatever else is on their roster.

A Teacher Who Is Gifted or Inclusion and Also Teaches Classes

Nothing competes. Their own classes give them the impacts any classroom teacher gets, and the gifted or inclusion course gives them those students' scores as well. Somebody your SIS sends both a gifted and an inclusion course is labelled Gifted and Inclusion Teacher.

Which Numbers Cannot Move

A gifted or inclusion teacher's students are counted in two teacher impacts: their own teacher's and this one's. No score moves to a different teacher or school, so your district's numbers, every school's numbers and the student's own teacher's numbers are exactly what they would be otherwise.

Nothing in the app adds teacher impacts together, so no total changes. If you add up teacher rows from a CSV yourself, one of these students appears in both.

Their Login

A gifted or inclusion teacher gets their login the way every teacher your SIS sends does, from teachers.csv. The email on their record is your file's, and it is not yours to use to give them access: see Teacher Users for how teacher logins arrive.

The email field on a record your district added is what gives that person a login. That is the other kind, and it does not apply here.
