Review District Users

This is the sixth step of the school year rollover. Here you check your district users, who have district-wide access without admin controls.

What this step asks for

The step lists your active district users. For each, you can:

  • Deactivate them, if they have left the district.
  • Step them down to a School User, if they should only see certain schools. You pick which schools when you do it, and at least one is required.
  • Grant or remove add-ons, the extra access described below.

Anyone you take no action on stays as they are.

Add-ons

Two extra grants can sit on top of a district or school user's role:

  • Uploader. Can upload data files.
  • Maintenance. Can reach the site during maintenance mode.

Tick or untick them and update. Changing add-ons does not take the person off the nightly SIS sync, because add-ons are not something the sync manages. Changing their role or their schools does.

Editing schools takes a user off the nightly sync

Stepping someone down to a School User, or changing which schools they see, marks that person as hand-managed so your change sticks. From then on the nightly SIS sync no longer reconciles their access, and it is on you to maintain it. Add-on changes do not have this effect.

Adding someone new

New district users are not added here. Use the Invite a user link.

Not sure something is right?

If you are unsure whether someone should keep district-wide access, leave them and open a Helpdesk Ticket. Stepping someone down is easy to reverse; deactivating them is more disruptive.
