Current SIS Files

This is the fourth step of the onboarding wizard. Here you upload your Student Information System (SIS) exports for the current school year. This current-year data is used to generate impacts and import scores.

These are the same five files as the previous step, just run for the current school year instead of the prior one.

Files to upload

Upload the following five files, each as a .csv:

Upload File name
Schools schools.csv
Students students.csv
Teachers teachers.csv
Enrollments enrollments.csv
Schedules schedules.csv

All five are for the current school year. When every file is uploaded, click Next to continue.

These names are required

Each file has to be named exactly as shown above, in .csv format, and uploaded into its own slot. A file with any other name is refused as you upload it, including a name that differs only in capitalization or carries a suffix your export added, such as students (1).csv. Nothing is stored, and the message names both what the slot takes and what you chose, so rename the file and upload it again. This is the same rule as the SIS Data Format page states for every SIS file.

Finish District Information first

You can only upload files once the District Information step is complete. If the upload area is not available, return to that step and save it first.

File format and columns

Every SIS file has a required set of columns. See the SIS Data Format page for the exact column list for each file.

Each file is checked as you upload it, and a file that is not the one the slot asks for, or that would import nothing, is refused. When a file is refused it is not stored, so the slot keeps showing that no file has been uploaded and you can correct the file and upload it again. A file is refused when:

  • The file is not named as the slot's file name above.
  • A required column is missing. The message names the column, so compare it against the SIS Data Format list.
  • The file has no header row. Export the file with its column names in the first row.
  • The file has a header row but no data rows underneath it.
  • The file is empty, or is not a readable .csv.

The Teachers file needs an email column

teachers.csv creates both your teacher records and your teachers' logins, so it needs an email column in addition to the teacher columns. The column has to be there; individual teachers' email values may be blank. See the teachers.csv section of SIS Data Format.
