Score Tracker

Overview

The Score Tracker is the student-level view of your scores. Where an impact rolls everything into a single number, the tracker drops you down to the individual rows: every student, their score, and how it counts. It is where you go to answer "who is in this number and why."

Where It Lives

  • The Score Tracker is available on a district, school, or teacher page.
  • Each tracker belongs to one Assessment Definition: a benchmark, a midterm, or the state assessment. Pick the assessment from the first dropdown.
  • The student lists you open from an impact (students at a performance level, or at a growth level) use the same columns as the tracker.
  • The tracker opens empty until you choose a subject, then fills in the matching student rows.
  • CSV and PDF exports are available for whatever you have filtered to.

How To Use It

  1. Open the tracker from a district, school, or teacher page.
  2. Choose an assessment and a subject to load the rows.
  3. Narrow with the filters that apply: score type, year, grade, period, and the Filter dropdown, which holds your saved score filters along with the FAY and LPS filters.
  4. Use the search box to jump to a specific student.
  5. Export to CSV or PDF when you need the list outside the platform.

Prior MAAP or Growth

A teacher's tracker has a Prior MAAP / Growth dropdown.

  • Prior MAAP is the default. The prior columns hold each student's previous-year MAAP result, except a compacted 8th grader's, which hold their Math 8 score on the same assessment (see Compacted Scores).
  • Growth switches the prior columns to the student's result on the previous benchmark of the same year, so a teacher can see who grew, who held, and who slipped since the last benchmark. The LPS column is hidden in Growth, because LPS is measured against the Prior MAAP columns.

The dropdown only appears when all of these are true:

  • A subject is selected.
  • It is a teacher's tracker, not a district or school tracker.
  • The assessment is a benchmark or the state assessment, not a midterm.
  • An earlier benchmark exists in the same year. The year's first benchmark has nothing to compare against.

Columns

Some headers name the assessment you are viewing. They use the assessment's short name from its Assessment Definition, written below as <short name>, and the spring of its school year, written as <year>.

Column Shows when What it holds
Name Always The student, with any badges
Grade Always The student's grade
School District tracker only The student's school
Period Always The class period
District FAY / School FAY Every score type except K-2 Whether the student meets full academic year. District trackers show District FAY; school and teacher trackers show School FAY. See Full Academic Year.
Prior MAAP Scale Score English and Math, every score type except K-2 The student's previous-year MAAP scale score
Spring <year> <short name> Scale Score At least one row has a scale score (see below) The scale score, or n/a
Prior MAAP PL English and Math The student's previous-year MAAP performance level
Spring <year> <short name> PL Always The performance level on this assessment
Proficiency Always Whether the score is proficient
Passing Always Whether the score is passing
Growth English and Math The growth result
District LPS / School LPS / Teacher LPS English and Math, not in Growth Whether the student is in the lowest-performing group

On English and Math, the FAY and Name columns repeat at the right edge of the page so you can read a wide row without scrolling back. K-2 trackers have no FAY column, so only Name repeats. The PDF leaves the repeats out.

Compacted scores on a teacher's tracker

With Compacted selected, a teacher's tracker names the prior columns Prior Scale Score and Prior PL, because a compacted 8th grader's prior is their Math 8 score on the same assessment, never the SLAIF. The Prior Scale Score column only appears when at least one row has a prior scale score, so on a midterm it is usually hidden. See Compacted Scores for what each prior cell means and the note that explains missing Math 8 scores.

Prior MAAP Scale Score

The prior MAAP scale score comes from the SLAIF. In some districts, a student in grades 3 through 9 with no SLAIF result takes their previous-year state score instead. It never comes from your benchmark vendor, so it shows the same way for every district setup: on benchmarks, midterms, and the state assessment, for English and Math, on every score type except K-2. The one exception is a compacted 8th grader, whose prior is their Math 8 score on the same assessment (see Compacted Scores).

In Growth, the same column holds the previous benchmark's scale score instead, and its header names that benchmark. Benchmarks only store a scale score for some district setups, so in Growth the column depends on yours:

Assessment Vendor Calculation Type Prior scale score column in Growth
Mastery Connect Vendor Defined Shown
Mastery Connect District Defined Hidden
Mastery Connect K-1 District Defined Hidden
ELS Vendor Defined Hidden
ELS District Defined Hidden
ELS K-1 District Defined Hidden

The prior PL column shows in Growth for every setup.

Spring <year> <short name> Scale Score

This column appears when at least one row in your filtered results has a scale score, counting every page of results, not just the one on screen. Each cell then shows the scale score, or n/a when that row has none.

Which rows have a scale score depends on where the score came from and on your district's Assessment Vendor and Calculation Type:

Assessment Vendor Calculation Type Benchmark score Midterm score State (MAAP) score, including Banked Applied MAAP-A student on a benchmark or midterm
Mastery Connect Vendor Defined Scale score n/a Scale score n/a
Mastery Connect District Defined n/a n/a Scale score n/a
Mastery Connect K-1 District Defined n/a n/a Scale score n/a
ELS Vendor Defined n/a n/a Scale score n/a
ELS District Defined n/a n/a Scale score n/a
ELS K-1 District Defined n/a n/a Scale score n/a

Why a cell reads n/a:

  • Midterm scores. A midterm arrives as percent correct and is scored against your midterm ranges. It has no scale score.
  • Benchmark scores outside Mastery Connect Vendor Defined. Those benchmarks are scored from percent correct or from the vendor's performance level, so no scale score is kept.
  • MAAP-A students on a benchmark or midterm. The value stored for these students is a placeholder, not a score they earned on this assessment.
  • Kindergarten through 2nd grade, and any score stored as 0.

A midterm or benchmark tracker can still show real scale scores: a Banked Applied row is a state score from an earlier year that counts toward this one, and it keeps its scale score. Its badge names the spring it was tested.

Exports

  • The PDF holds the same columns as the page, without the repeated FAY and Name columns.
  • The CSV always includes scale_score, blank on every row the page shows as n/a. With Prior MAAP selected it includes prior_scale_score; in Growth it includes fake_prior_scale_score, the previous benchmark's scale score, instead.

What Data Feeds It

The tracker reads your processed scores directly:

  • The rows are the scores linked to the assessment you selected.
  • The prior MAAP columns come from the SLAIF, and in some districts from a previous-year state score when the SLAIF has none. A compacted 8th grader's prior comes from their Math 8 score on the same assessment instead. The Growth columns come from the previous benchmark in the same year.
  • Saved score filters and low-performing flags come from your configured filters and roster data. FAY comes from your district's full academic year status (see Full Academic Year).

The tracker updates as new score files process.

Common Questions

  • Why is the tracker empty? Choose a subject first. The rows do not load until a subject is selected.
  • Why is there no Scale Score column? No row in your filtered results has a scale score. See the table under Spring <year> <short name> Scale Score for which scores carry one.
  • Why does a midterm tracker show scale scores? Those rows are Banked Applied state scores from an earlier year. The midterm's own rows read n/a.
  • Why don't I see the Growth option? It is offered on a teacher's tracker, for a benchmark or the state assessment that has an earlier benchmark in the same year, once a subject is selected.
  • The district and teacher trackers show different students. Each is scoped to its own district, school, or teacher, so a teacher tracker only shows that teacher's attributed students.
