Subject Assignment from Course Codes (MAAP Courses)
Overview
When you upload course records into the system, each course has a course code that identifies the class a student is enrolled in.
TKG Analytics automatically uses these codes to determine which students are expected to take the Mississippi Academic Assessment Program (MAAP) end-of-year state assessments.
These course codes represent official MAAP-tested courses. Students enrolled in these courses are included in state testing projections, accountability components, and growth calculations.
If you do not see a course code listed below and believe it should be included, please open a Helpdesk Ticket for assistance. Our support team can confirm whether the course is eligible or help you update your district’s course mappings.
How It Works
When course records are uploaded, the system reviews each course code and assigns it to a subject category.
If the course code matches one of the MAAP-tested subjects below, the student will be flagged as expected to test in that subject for accountability purposes.
If it does not match, the record will not be imported into MAAP-based reports.

- If a course code does not match any of the MAAP-tested subjects above, it will not be imported into MAAP reports.
- This helps ensure only valid, tested subjects are included in accountability calculations.
Placeholder Courses
Some districts do not test every student in a subject in the fall. A student who will not sit a fall end-of-course (EOC) test is often placed in a stand-in course instead, such as Foundations of Algebra, Compensatory Math I, Supplemental English II, or an online credit-recovery section. We call these placeholder courses.
A placeholder course is not on the standard list above, so TKG Analytics does not treat its students as expected to test unless we add its code to your district's MAAP courses. Semester (4x4) schools need this most, because the students sitting the fall EOC change every year.
If your district uses placeholder courses, open a Helpdesk Ticket with the course codes and the subject each one stands in for, and we will add them.
Confirming Your MAAP Courses
Your district's MAAP courses are shown, read only, on the Score Information step of onboarding and the Re-confirm Configuration step of the school year rollover. Each code is listed by subject with its course title. History is not shown while it is not part of the accountability model. The step also points out:
- Additional course codes. Codes we map for your district that are not on the standard list, often placeholder courses. A code that is also one of your feeder courses for the same subject is flagged, because a student's feeder enrollment in that course is dropped at import. A standard MAAP course that is also a feeder course is listed on its own for the same reason.
- Standard codes we do not map. Standard MAAP courses missing from your district's list. U.S. History is not listed while history is not part of the accountability model.
- Compacted math. Compacted Math 7 and Compacted Math 8 (with Algebra I) are listed on their own if your district does not carry them. They are only needed if your district teaches compacted math, so if it does not, you can ignore them. If you have told us your district does not teach Algebra I in 8th grade, the compacted courses on your list are shown grayed out, because no students are placed in them.
- Semester schools. If your district has semester (4x4) schools, a reminder to double check your fall placeholder courses.
- Codes we do not recognize. A code that is not in our course list is marked so you can check it.
Before you continue, confirm the courses are correct, or tell us a MAAP or placeholder course needs adding or changing and open a Helpdesk Ticket. Changing MAAP courses is always handled by our team.
Why This Matters
- Alignment: Ensures students are correctly identified for MAAP testing and accountability purposes.
- Consistency: All users see the same subject classifications statewide.
- Accuracy: Prevents untested or local courses from appearing in MAAP-related reports.
- Automation: The system automatically handles subject assignment — no manual tagging needed.
Tip for Districts: Regularly verify that your SIS exports the correct MAAP course codes. If a code isn’t listed here, it won’t appear in MAAP projections or accountability reports.
