School Changes
This is the fourth step of the onboarding wizard. It comes straight after your current SIS files, and it is the only step whose answer can hold the whole wizard.
Why we ask
When a student takes a high school class early, that score still counts later, at the high school they go on to. TKG Analytics records which school feeds which and applies it to your older score years too.
We can only send that score to the right school if we know how your schools have changed over the last three years, and there is no way for you to correct it yourself once the wizard has moved on.
Schools that do not line up
We compare the school lists in every year you upload, including the grade levels each school taught, and list anything that appears differently between them:
| What we spot | What it usually means |
|---|---|
| In an earlier year, not in your current one | The school closed, merged into another, or was renumbered |
| In your current year, not in an earlier one | The school opened, took in another school's students, or is the new number for an old one |
| Grade levels changed | The school teaches different grades than it did, or took in another school's students |
For each one we ask what happened. A closure has to name where the students went, because that is how we move their scores to the right school.
A renumbering shows up twice, once under the old number and once under the new one. Answer it under the old number and name the new one there. The new number then drops off the list on its own, because you have already told us what it is. You never have to answer the same change twice.
Every school we list has to be answered before you can move on. The Next button stays closed until each one has an answer.
Have your schools changed?
We ask you directly as well, because some changes never reach a file at all: two schools swapping buildings, or a programme moving between them. Answer yes or no for those. There is no default, so you have to tell us either way before the wizard will move on.
Answering yes pauses your onboarding
We are told as soon as you answer, and we set your older years up by hand before you go any further. Going on now would mean uploading against a school list we already know is wrong.
The whole wizard is held while that happens, not just the steps ahead of you. The other steps show as plain text instead of links, and going back to one returns you here. Onboarding Status stays open so you can still see where you stand. If you answered by mistake, change your answer above and everything opens up again.
Changing your answer back to no tells us straight away as well, and you are copied on that message so you have your own record of it. Nothing gets set up by hand unless you report a change again.
Not sure something is right?
If you are not certain whether a change counts, answer yes and open a Helpdesk Ticket. It is far easier for us to confirm nothing needs doing than to unpick misplaced scores afterward.
