Review Custom Teachers

This step lists the custom teachers your district added by hand: outside interventionists, consultants, and anyone else your teacher files do not send. It asks one question about each of them. Are they staying?

Districts that have added nobody by hand never see this step at all.

Why this step exists

Every other teacher in the platform is governed by your teacher files. When teachers.csv stops naming someone, they go inactive on the next nightly sync, and nobody has to remember to do anything about it.

A person your district added is the one exception. No file names them, so no file can ever retire them. Without this step they would stay active for as long as your district exists, and so would their sign-in. See The custom teachers you add.

What the ticks do

Everyone staying is already ticked when the step opens, so you can read it and continue without changing anything. That is the common case: a consultant who worked with you last year is working with you this year too.

Untick anyone who is not coming back.

  • Their record is retired, and they can no longer sign in.
  • Nothing is deleted. The students named for them, their subjects, their base school and everything already built for them stay on their record.
  • Ticking them again brings them back, on the same record, with all of it.

The step also lists anyone you retired before, unticked, with a note saying so. That is how you bring somebody back if you untick the wrong person: tick them and confirm again.

Unticking somebody removes their sign-in

This is the only step in the rollover where a tick box takes someone's access away. The step tells you who can currently sign in, beside their name, so you can see what an untick costs before you confirm.

Teachers from your files are not listed here

A custom teacher who came from teachers.csv, including a teacher your district upgraded into a custom teacher and anyone whose SIS teacher id you have recorded, is governed by the file like any other teacher. They are not on this step, and they do not need to be.

Somebody is now in your teacher files?

If your SIS has started sending a person you added by hand, you now hold two records for one person. That is a merge rather than a retirement, and it is done on that person's own page: see The custom teachers you add.

A person you have already merged is not on this step. Your files maintain them now, so there is nothing here to decide: ticking them would bring back the duplicate the merge put away.
